Tradescantia zebrina

Tradescantia zebrina, commonly known as Inch Plant or Wandering Dude, is a fast-growing trailing houseplant valued for its striking striped foliage. Its leaves combine shades of green, silver and purple, creating a bright decorative effect in hanging pots, shelves and plant arrangements. The plant grows quickly and develops long cascading stems. Regular trimming keeps it compact and encourages fuller, bushier growth.

Care Light: Place in bright, indirect light. Good lighting helps maintain the strong silver and purple leaf coloration. Too little light can make the plant pale and leggy. Watering: Water when the top layer of soil has dried slightly. Keep the soil moderately moist, but avoid constant waterlogging. Temperature: Prefers temperatures around 18–26°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below approximately 10–12°C. Humidity: Normal household humidity is usually sufficient. Higher humidity can support healthier foliage, especially in warm conditions. Soil: Use a light, loose and well-draining potting mix. Good drainage is important to prevent root problems. Fertilizing: Feed every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced fertilizer for houseplants. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter. Pruning: Pinch or trim the growing tips regularly to encourage branching and maintain a dense shape. Long stems can also be used for propagation. Propagation: Tradescantia zebrina is very easy to propagate from stem cuttings. Cuttings can be rooted in water or directly in moist soil. Important: For the brightest foliage, provide plenty of indirect light and avoid keeping the soil constantly wet.
